SureCam's Installation Verification Tool is an online tool designed to verify proper installation in real-time and activate your devices on the SureCam platform using your mobile phone.
This guide walks you through the steps of using the install verification tool. The installation verification tool should be used after you have wired and mounted the device within a vehicle and are ready to verify and activate the device.
How To Use The Installation Verification Tool
Step 0: Getting Started
- Start by entering install.surecam.com in your mobile phone’s browser. We recommend using Safari on an iOS device, and Chrome on an Android device.
- When you open the web page you will be prompted to enter your user details. If you do not yet have these credentials please contact Customer Success.

Once logged in you will be prompted to scan the code (QR or Bar depending on device) located on the back of the device. If for any reason the Tool will not read code, then you can easily enter the serial number manually. Enter all 8 digits.
- If your serial number includes an F or a G, replace that with an 8. Example: F1234567 would be 81234567

The Tool will search the database and ask you to confirm the serial number is correct and that it is in the correct project, hit yes if the details are correct.

Hit ‘No’ and the Tool will prompt you to re-scan the device or manually enter the serial number again.

- The Tool will then ask you if you have already installed this device.
- If you choose ‘No take me to an install guide’, it will take you to our comprehensive support portal. Here you find Installation guides, tips, and tricks to assist you in the installation of this device.

If you choose ‘Yes the device is installed’, you can start the validation process, starting with power. Hit ‘Next’ and the Tool will walk you through the steps.

Step 1: Power Check
- First, we need to validate if the ignition is off and what behavior you are seeing with the LED’s on the device. (Depending on your device and it's LED's follow instructions on the first 2 pictures above.)

If ignition is on, please switch off and wait until all the LED’s have turned off.

If you are seeing lit LED’s on the device then please follow the steps outlined to ensure the device is wired correctly, if you need help, hit ‘Wiring help’ and contact details of the local customer success team will be displayed.

If no LED’s are lit, you are ready to move on to verify the power is registering on the platform.

Switch on the vehicle ignition and hit ‘Ignition is on’
- Please note: The device will take up to 60 seconds to boot. Only after it has booted will the ignition be verified.

Once the device has booted, you should see the LEDs for your specific device light up. See the different LED sequences below:
- Yellow, Red, Green LED: Solid Yellow, Slow Flashing Red, Solid Green
- Button LED and Connectivity LED: Solid Red Button LED and Green connectivity LED

If the LED’s are not lit then hit ‘LED lights are not lit’ and you will again be given the contact details of your local Customer Success team who will be happy to assist.
- Once the device has booted and you are seeing the correct LED pattern the tool will verify the power is registering on the platform. Proceed.
Step 2: Cellular Connection Check
Step 1 to validate the power connection is complete, now for Step 2-- confirming the device has cellular connection.
- Hit ‘Next’ then ‘Next’ again to begin the process of verifying the device has cellular connection. This process should be relatively short (depending upon the cellular data signal) as we have already confirmed connection in Step 1.

Once cellular connection has been verified hit ‘Next’ to take you to Step 3
Step 3: GPS Signal Check
Hit next to start Step 3, verifying the GPS signal’.
Please note: It is important that the GPS antenna is positioned with a clear view of the sky. The GPS signal will not be available otherwise.
- If the platform is unable to verify GPS signal on the device then you will be prompted to take action. Hit ‘Retry’ once you have followed the instructions.
- You can hit ‘Troubleshoot’ if no signal is being received even after you have followed the suggested steps. You will be directed to the local Customer success team.
- You can hit ‘Skip’ If you have no way of moving the vehicle outside to give you a clear view of the sky and therefore the available GPS satellites.
Once the platform has verified the GPS signal is acceptable it will show you the green checkmark and allow you to move to Step 4, Camera image, hit ‘Next’
Step 4: Approve Camera Image
Step 4 will help you verify exactly what the camera(s) is seeing. Hit ‘Next’ and the platform will grab an image from the camera(s). The smart Tool will detect which camera type you are installing and if you have more than one camera image to verify.
- Please note: This may take a few minutes if the cellular signal is poor.
If you are not happy with the angle the camera is mounted at, please adjust it carefully and then hit ‘Retake’ to retrieve another image.
- Depending on your camera type, adjusting the camera angle may require you loosening the bolts on the front of the camera. Using the provided hex key you would loosen the screw marked below with a "7". Each screw corresponds with the camera it is next to.
Only hit ‘Confirm’ once the angle is correct
Step 5: Proper Wiring Configuration Check
Step 5 checks that the ignition and permanent live feeds are correctly wired.
- Hit ‘Ignition is on’ and the platform will quickly confirm the correct data is showing in the logs, and that the device is reporting the ignition is on.
- Turn off the vehicle ignition, wait 30 seconds for the signal to reach the cloud, and then hit ‘Ignition is off’. The platform will check if the device has registered the ignition off event.
- If the platform is unable to confirm the ignition off event then you will be prompted to troubleshoot the installation. Hit ‘Wiring help’ if you are unable to verify the wiring and you will be prompted with the local customer success contact details.

Once you have made any corrections to the wiring and ensured it is correct, hit ‘Ignition line fixed: return to step 5’.

Turn off the vehicle ignition and then hit ‘Ignition is off’. The platform will confirm the device has registered the ignition off event and give you the green checkmark to confirm everything is ok.
Step 6: Vehicle Registration & Confirmation Code
- The Tool will now ask you to enter the vehicle registration number, this is a required action and must be completed.
- Consider this field what you would label your vehicle as. Truck number, License Plate, last 6 of VIN. etc.
- Once entered hit ‘Next’ and the Tool will display the completed step, hit confirm install’ and you will see the success screen which gives you the unique confirmation code.
- The platform will also send an email to your registered user email address.
- Hit ‘Scan another device’ to start the process again.
