The ideal mounting location for your Forward-Facing Dash Camera will vary by vehicle type. We typically recommend placing your connected dash camera in an area that will not obstruct the driver's view but will allow for maximum visibility of the road. Several mounting recommendations are listed below for different vehicle types:
Mounting Guidelines:
Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Guidelines
It should be noted that, per Heavy Goods Vehicle Guidelines, the camera should not be placed in the swept area of the windshield aside from the location where you would find the rear-view mirror. For vehicles with a rear-view mirror in place, the camera can be placed behind, or slightly to the side of the mirror so it is out of the driver's view and will not be a distraction.
Larger Vehicles
For vehicles with larger hoods, such as Peterbilt or Kenworth models, the best place for the mount is in the upper center portion of the windshield. Clients with these vehicles do best to avoid the exterior sunvisor.
Specialty (Adjustable) Mounts
We also find that clients who use the specialty (adjustable) mount often have success mounting it behind the top of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. However, be sure to take in the specifications of your vehicles when preparing to install your connected camera device.
The camera should be positioned to be out of the driver's swept area of vision as much as possible.
